We prepare for weeks ahead of our first game each season. We hit, throw, run, field, go over philosophy and team strategies…then it is time. Time to go. Time to play. Time to display what our preparation has done for us. There’s a tune-up here and there along the way, but once the season starts, it is time to get it done.

Check out Matthew 4:12 — Now when Jesus heard that John had been taken into custody, he withdrew into Galilee…

John the Baptist was the practice season, if you will. He was sent by the Father to prepare the way for the Savior. He preached, baptized, and prophesied in the name of the Lord, telling all who would listen that the time for the Messiah was near.

When Jesus heard that John’s time was up, he knew it was game time. Time to go. Time to enter the picture.

He was prepared after spending years learning from his Father. He was ready after having proved himself in temptation. He was eager after building toward this mission his whole life.

What is it time for you to do? Is it time to stop preparing and start doing what you’ve prepared to do? Once you know your mission, it is time.

Lord Jesus, give me wisdom to see and know why you have me where I am, and courage to go when you send. Amen.
