There’s more to hitting than swinging the bat. There’s more to pitching than throwing the ball. There’s more to fielding than catching the ball.

Once you realize that, you can work on the things to make you successful in each of those areas of the game.

The “more” to hitting: pitch recognition, pitch selection, patience, etc.

The “more” to pitching: command, velocity, change of speed, location, etc.

The “more” to fielding: positioning, route, quickness, knowledge of runners and hitters, etc.

You can’t be a successful hitter, pitcher, or fielder without the “more” as your foundation. Sure, you’ll get by on sheer talent for a while, but then, eventually, it will catch up with you. That’s when greatness is separated from good.

Proverbs 24:3-4–“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; and by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”

It’s the “more” in life that makes the difference. It’s not your God-given talent or intellect or what comes naturally to you. Without the foundation of wisdom, understanding, and true knowledge, you will never be “built…established…filled.”

One day, you won’t be able to wow people with how cool you are, with your ability to talk your way out of a situation, your proficiency at getting ahead with just talent and personality. Maturity demands more.

If you want to be built, established, and filled, you need “more.” You need the wisdom, understanding, and knowledge that comes only through humbling yourself before God, admitting your need for him, and receiving his free offer of salvation and new life through Jesus Christ. And, Jesus is all the “more” you’ll ever need.

Lord Jesus, give me more. More of you. Less of me. Amen.
