Especially as a fan of the Bears, the Reds (like you), and the Cats back in the late 80s – early 90s.
One cool thing I’ve found as I’ve gotten older and deeper into the Word… I still enjoy sports and have stayed loyal to my teams. However, I must admit watching the teams I love lose isn’t quite as bitter a pill to swallow as it used to be. My joy comes from more meaningful things in life.
As for the plan part of the podcast, when Lovie Smith became coach of the Chicago Bears – I remember him spelling out his goals as a coach. They were simple. Beat the Packers (something the Bears had not done in quite some time). Win the NFC Central. Win the NFC Division. Win the Super Bowl. He said those things with authority as well. I remember thinking – that stuff ain’t gonna happen – I had been a Bears fan during some pretty bleak seasons, but as wins starting happening and goals started getting checked off, it was pretty cool to watch.
When our faith is bleak, and things seem impossible. Maybe we should ask God what goals He wants us to set… starting with the easier ones first. Then watch as He crosses them off the list He’s given us.
Boy, this one hits home on many fronts…
