You can’t do it on your own, whatever it is.

Life.

Baseball.

Coaching.

Parenting.

Those who attempt a solitary effort quickly find an overwhelming experience. There’s just too much we don’t know about those things, too much we can’t know.

We walk alone at our own peril.

The player needs a coach. The coach needs a mentor. The parent needs a guru.

Life and baseball both require guidance. Without it, we will fail.

Proverbs 11:14–“Where there is no guidance, the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory.”

Without guidance, we don’t know where to go.

Without guidance, we will take the wrong path.

Without guidance, we will just make it up as we go along.

Without guidance, we will struggle to move forward.

Without guidance, we will miss our strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats.

Without guidance, we are lost.

The wise player, coach, and parent surrounds himself with several godly counselors.

People who will tell him he’s wrong, he’s stupid, he’s full of it.

Today presents yet another chance for us to fall or to be victorious. It might just come down to the counselors we gather around us.

Lord Jesus, you are the “Wonderful Counselor.” Give me your wisdom. Surround me with people who will speak your truth to me. Amen.
