Baseball has an interesting way of handling “justice.” You’ve seen it, and maybe you’ve even participated in it. Those who showboat or run their mouths tend to pay for it with a baseball to the ribs in their next plate appearance. Whether or not you believe this is right, the feeling created by those who run their mouths is universal. It makes your blood boil. You wish someone would do something to shut them up.

Proverbs 18:6–“A fool’s lips bring strife, and his mouth calls for blows.”

Truer words have never been written.

Words matter. They hurt. They heal. They reveal who you really are. If your words aren’t controlled by the Holy Spirit, get ready for the fastball to the ribs.

Eventually, the fool hurts only himself with his uncontrolled words. He separates himself from even the people he once thought were his friends. The blows inflicted on him are his own doing.

So, if you want revenge on the person who won’t shut up, be patient and let his or her words eventually be their own downfall.

If you find yourself with a mouth problem yourself, take a good look at where it’s leading you. The end won’t be pretty.

Lord Jesus, I’m giving this to you. My desire to get revenge on those who run their mouths, it’s yours. My own uncontrolled words, they’re yours. Live through me in all of it. Amen.
