coach-and-playerCoaching is hard and often thankless. So, on behalf of all of us whose kids play for you, let me say thanks to every coach who read this.

Thank you for the hours and work no one sees.

Thank you for the money spent from your pocket to cover team expenses.

Thank you for being early.

Thank you for staying late.

Thank you for investing in the life of my kid.

Thank you for being patient when you’re stressed.

Thank you for valuing people over victories (I know how hard that is).

Thank you for figuring out ways to teach difficult concepts to people who don’t understand.

Thank you for putting things in terms my kid can understand.

Thank you for answering my questions.

Thank you for not getting paid what you’re worth.

Thank you for challenging my kid to be better than he is right now.

Thank you for teaching the same things over and over.

Thank you for giving up your free time to coach and mentor young people.

Thank you for being organized and for communicating well.

Thank you for encouraging my kid and speaking kindly to him.

Thank you for continuing to work the process, even when the results aren’t what you want.

I could go on and on…thanks, Coach.
